Latest Treatments for Those With Severe Acne

Isotretinoin is a new medication that some dermatologists are using to treat severe acne and this medication is a man-made version of Retin A, which is a common ingredient in acne treatments and that comes from vitamin A. This medication eliminates excess oil production in the skin that cause acne. You can also get laser treatment for severe acne and some patients receive corticosteroid injections.

Botulinum Toxin

According to Dr. Erin Gilbert, a dermatology professor at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, botulinum toxin could assist people in relieving skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. Gilbert performed a study on mice where she and fellow researchers administered botulinum toxin to treat psoriasis and this steroid decreased the presence of psoriasis symptoms in the skin.

Injectable Fillers

These dermal fillers are not very new but every few months you will hear about different versions of the fillers that arrive on the market by certain companies. Some popular dermal fillers are Restylane and Botox and if you think this treatment would work for reducing aging signs, you can meet with the dermatologist to receive the treatments.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are another new treatment that is designed to treat minor skin conditions such as acne, age spots and dark brown spots on the skin due to sun damage and a skin condition known as melasma.  With a chemical peel, the dermatologist applies an acid treatment to your face and lets it sit for a few minutes before washing it off. During the first few days after the chemical peel your skin will be itchy and red and you want to avoid the sun during that time.

Using these and other modern dermatology treatments is beneficial in treating skin illnesses and some of them are covered by health insurance providers. Before you consider a certain treatment you want to talk with your dermatologist to see if you are physically able to receive this treatment. If you cannot afford to get treatments from the dermatologist, you can use over-the-counter me in medications because they are just as effective in treating skin disorders. Another option is to make homemade skin treatments with items you have in your pantry.  Naturopathic doctors can give you advice on the best natural remedies that will give you refreshed and healthier skin. Finally, look for ways you can prevent skin problems.
