Aside from diarrhea, one of the most popular bowel movement disorders is constipation. Caused by a number of reasons, constipation has become the problem of many individuals, young or old alike.

Understanding constipation

Being constipated means that you cannot easily “dump” your thing even if you feel like doing so. A lot of researches have outlined different causes of constipation. Studies have also shown that constipation is very likely to be experienced by people who are forty years old and above. This might be due to the fact that older people tend to have more problems in digestion.

How do we deal with constipation?

Using laxatives is one of the most popular ways by which you can find relief from constipation. However, this is not something that people always believe in. Although laxatives can really solve the problem, doctors still agree that constipation is caused by natural habits. Thus, there goes the need to solve it in natural ways.

If you are often constipated, here are some ways you can manage or deal with it:

Drink lots of water.

Juices, carbonated drinks and other chemically-mixed drinks don’t count. It may sound too old school but yes, drinking at least eight glasses a day still is the best way you can combat constipation.

Take more fibers.

Encourage digestion by eating foods that are rich in fiber. Consider stacking up fruits and vegetables in your kitchen.

Exercise regularly.

Although there isn’t any direct attribution, regular exercise helps organs function better than before. However, this does not mean that you would go on a deal for strenuous activities. Stretching and basic exercises are enough to keep you going.

Evaluate what you eat.

Before putting anything in your mouth, ask yourself if it is worth it. Alcohol and other liquors can only leave you with unwanted toxins. Too much sweets can only give you so much sugar in the body.

Set a regular schedule for the deed.

Practice sitting on the toilet on a specific time of day every day of the week. It may not always be successful, but it can help train your bowel muscles to do the deed.
