Onychomycosis, or nail fungal infection is present when your nails acquire a yellowish hue, along with other symptoms such as brittleness, thickening, or ragged nails. Nails may also acquire a darker color due to dirt buildup beneath the infected nail. Nail fungal infection may also cause the nail to be torn off from the nail bed. This condition is called onycholysis, and may cause the victim much pain. A bad odor may also emanate from the infected nails.
