According to medical experts, inflammation is a natural response of our body to viruses and bacteria, wounds, and injuries. In this way, our body tries to heal itself. When encountering infection, our immune system reacts with inflammation. There is two basic types of inflammation – acute and chronic. Even though acute inflammation is usually referring as good while chronic is considered as bad, it is not always the case. Namely, acute inflammations such as a sore throat, acute bronchitis, acute dermatitis, acute tonsillitis and so on, requires immediate action and force us to face directly with a problem. On the other hand, chronic inflammation, like peptic ulcer, tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), atherosclerosis, periodontitis, a certain type of cancers, etc., suggest the hidden cause beneath. In this case, some experts recommend changes in our lifestyle, from reducing stress to adopting a proper diet. According to them, chronic lack of sleep, stress, poor social life, and similar factors, decrease the ability of our immune system to defend our body. For that reason, they suggest cultivating good habits and include exercising, meditation, positive attitude, and healthy social relationships in our everyday life. They also think that certain types of foods can alleviate and remove inflammation and its harmful effects on our health.
