When we about the risks of heart attacks in men, we normally think about men who are 50 and over but it is also possible for men in their 20s and 30s to have heart attacks for several reasons. According to Harvard Health Publications, ten percent of the young males in the United States get heart attacks and it is due to the development of coronary artery disease, where the arteries are blocked with excess cholesterol.  Other young men may get heart attacks because of abnormalities in the arteries or arrythmia, which is an irregular heartbeat.  Alcohol and drug abuse are other causes for poor heart health in young men.

 Determining if You’re At Risk of Heart Attack

 If the men in your family have had heart attacks in the past, then you could be at risk of developing it as well. You should also examine your current lifestyle to determine if your eating habits, smoking or lack of exercise is raising your chances of getting a heart attack.  If you have experienced bad chest pains and pressure buildup in the chest, you may be having a heart attack.  If this is followed by dizziness and confusion, then you must see the doctor immediately. If you have a high-stress job, consider changing jobs if your heart health is affected.

Anger and Heart Health Among Young Men

 Medical researchers stated that young men who get angry all the time are more likely to develop poor heart health than young men who do not possess an anger problem. If you are a man who is prone to angry outbursts, you should seek professional help and also get support from your relatives and friends. During the counseling sessions you want to talk about the root of the anger such as abandonment by a parent, being bullied in school or stress over unemployment.

Good Heart Healthy Foods

Broccoli is a good vegetable that men should eat because of the antioxidants that are in the broccoli and broccoli also has Omega 3 fatty acids that improve your heart health as a young man. Avocado contains  the good fats polysaturated and monosaturated fats, which increase the good cholesterol in your body. Oatmeal should be consumed because of the fiber it has and fiber is good for heart health. Berries have antioxidants that work well for heart health.

 As a young man you are probably positive about your future and you look forward to a long term career and possibly marriage and family. You can prolong your life by ensuring that your heart stays healthy and when you start a healthy lifestyle at a young age, you will be less stressed about your health and you can focus more on building a strong zeal for life and helping those around you.
