Having acne is common among teenagers and early adults. What they might notice is that acne is hard to treat. Since the condition differs, each individual must have different treatments to get rid of their problem. They have to experiment on the medicines available on the market, without a guarantee that their acne will be completely gone.

Acne Treatments

What’s hard to distinguish is whether or not the treatment will suit your skin. All acne products claim to be the best one around, but we know that it really depends on the user. Besides, those over-the-counter products don’t cure acne; they simply repress its symptoms.

One thing to remember though is that acne is not merely a case of bad hygiene. There are many reasons for it to happen, like hormones, stress, and oily foods among others. That is why washing your face many times doesn’t guarantee you an acne-free face. You can go to specialists for some prescription medicines that are stronger than OTC ones.

There are varying treatments for acne. It can range from over-the-counter creams to prescription medicines to surgical removals. The last one is only advisable for those who earn money using their physical appearance as an asset or for those who need a quick recovery. Surgeries cost money, so unless you’re rich, don’t go for it.

Most OTC creams contain Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic acid. These control the development of acne and usually kill the pimples. When acne is more severe, these are combined with other medications to produce a stronger effect. Of course, a combination should only be prescribed or recommended by dermatologists since we don’t know the full effect of it. Still, more severe cases might need other treatments. Light therapy and extraction are two effective ways of getting rid of acne. They are done while the patient is using some other acne products.

Trying to self-medicate acne is not very advisable. It’s fine for mild cases, but severe acne needs special attention. You could do yourself more harm than good by wasting money on unnecessary products and exposing yourself to harmful medications. Finding a good doctor is the key. Not only can they stop acne, but they can also prevent scarring which usually happens after acne.
